House Hunt Series #6: More staging mistakes

Here are my next round of interesting photos I found while looking for a small house.

See the two bags already packed?

Spur, Texas paves the way for small houses

With the demand for farm work declining and the fact Spur Texas has better retirement weather than Florida, it's no wonder the mayor declared this the "Tiny House Friendly Town".

Here is a glimpse of Spur, Texas from google map:

By changing the city ordinance to allow small structures of any size, anyone can build to suit their tiny home desire.
Here is the official declaration.

Monday Multiple Series # 53-Chair lineup

The day has come.
I let go of the rocking chair and my husband let go of a wooden chair.
The IKEA chair is representing the multiple times I asked my kids if they wanted it at college and always answered no.

There was a moment of silence when the basketball hoop was taken down in preparation of painting the garage.

Tiny House Nation

Thanks Sarah for introducing me to "Tiny House Nation".
Love the wooden decorative sign that says, "Home is where your story begins".
I need to learn more about this show...can I sign up to be on it?

A creative small home solution for the homeless

These are prototypes for living shelters in Slovakia for the homeless.
The billboard space would provide a subsidy for the cost.

My affair with 2900 square feet

As soon as the small house contract was cancelled, I was already indulging in a liaison with my spacious master bathroom.

Who was I kidding to think squishing all our current furniture in less square feet was eliminating my carbon footprint?

I never once considered telling the hanging rocking chair in my double heated garage that it's days were numbered.

The multiple van trips to the thrift store was my alibi that I had less.

The truth is that it's not enough to change my address to change my relationship with  stuff.

'Twas the night before listing...

and all through the house...
tile floors became spotless, but specs of grout were found stuck in the disposal.

The American Dream

When your house is so important you need a lifestyle video to sell it.

2100 Shadywood Rd, Orono MN from Spacecrafting on Vimeo.

AND an entire website just to showcase it.

Potential home buyers....for a few million less and two more bedrooms, would you please consider our house this week? We will throw in the rusty Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Monday Multiple Series # 51-Home Starch

I am entering the last few days before anyone can come in and see my material collection including what is hidden in any closet or drawer. When I saw this random box out of the corner of my eye, my compulsive un-nesting set in and I grabbed it for the recycling bin.

Is it possible my other half ordered a half dozen spray starches in this final stretch?

Brown furniture

The Wall Street Journal just posted an excellent article yesterday titled, "That Perfect Dining Table? No One Wants it, Even If It's Free".  Alina Dizik captured my situation perfectly describing an empty nester struggling to get rid of accumulated furniture from a five bedroom house.

I am reminded of our 100 year old sewing machine.  A neighbor in the culdesac just listed their house and here is a picture of their storage room. Eye spy the vintage sewing machine.

The furniture industry calls unwanted furniture, "brown furniture".

With furniture being scaled for larger areas, the rooms in our smaller house have no desire to fit a king mattress.  I think about my newly acquired mom's dresser set every day. Most likely there will never be another set so well made in my future. Do I need it and more importantly can I get rid of it?

Wave welcome

The vines in my flower pot are growing down the side so I propped them up on tables.  When I asked my daughter what she thought, she replied, "What is this, some type of tsunami house?"

First item on the list this morning.....remove tsunami tables.
