I want to swing from the chandelier

I have spent many years sorting my possessions and searching for a small shelter.
Today we close on the 3000 sq ft home and begin a new life within 900 sq ft.

Downsizing discoveries

Four years ago I thought having everything in it's place or in a plastic container meant I was clean and organized. Little by little as the stuff left, I felt a new found freedom...space.

When it all comes down to it, the 3000 sw ft house was just a a big storage unit we paid money to protect things at a climate controlled setting.

So, goodbye big house.

Goodbye to the duvet that I just discovered was hiding the missing pillow case inside.

Goodbye yellow stain from air fresheners.

Good bye patch of carpet that my bassett hound chewed up.

Goodbye unfinished deck painting project.

I'm not special, everyone downsizes at some point in their life.
We don't need a whole lot and the world would be a better place if we lived a simple life.

Staying healthy in a small house

This is the post I woke up to:

Five simple exercises for working out in a tiny space.
1). Wall Jumps
2). Wall push-ups
3). Wall Runners
4). Isometric Hip holds
5). Shoulder shrugs with wall squat.

Then celebrate with a green bagel for St. Patricks Day from Bruggers Bagels.

The Bridging arc arrived

"When good people get together and do good things, then good things happen" says Fran.

My mom was one of the initial volunteers for this non-profit agency headed by Fran Heitzman. They take donated items and then offer them to those in need.  I spent many Saturdays volunteering in the warehouse as items would come in and within the same day they would be loaded on a truck to a new home. Here is a video about bridging and their services:

Two by two my donations were loaded into the truck:
Two parts of the sofa sectional:

Two tables:

Two wall decor art:

Two beds and linen:

Finally the vintage dresser set of my moms.
It only seems appropriate that her dressers are now part of the giving chain.

Two days until we officially move in.

Overheard from my husband from across 900 sq feet...

"This is really a small house."

(as he glances at his new closet space)

Downsizing is a phase? What?

A post from Country Living surveyed only 2000 people to determine that downsizing is just a trend with 43% saying they wanted larger homes.
The post claimed retirees need more room for the activities they are engaged in?
How does four bathrooms help with that?

That's what neighbors are for

Last night was a wonderful break from sorting, painting and moving.
A long time neighbor came over with this fun wine.

Besides the beautiful bold graphics, the caption says, "My house is your house".
Love this cap:

Stories of home improvement were shared. One in particular was the husband describing a fall from a ladder to clean the second story bird crap off a window.  To his surprise I presented him with a two story squeegee that I never knew we had until my final donation box. He was thrilled, and I am thrilled that I can reach all my future windows without a ladder.

I always say, no need to exchange sugar when you have useful donations.

What do you love?

This touching video by Ben Garvin proves the things we love are not material possessions.

"I'm so happy to have it"

Sometimes living in a small place does not reflect liberation.
In this case it is associated with homelessness.
