FLOR carpet tiles for stairs

Taking care to make each small part of our small house special, I designed a way to cover the slippery wooden stairs leading to the loft.

When considering Flor for our other rooms I had come across a box of unused samples.
With so many options to choose from I laid them all out on the stairs and decided not to decide and use them all in a random pattern.

Note: Due to the threat of slipping and danger on stairs, Flor was very clear they do not promote use of their tiles on stairs.

Here is how I did it.

1. Collect a variety of samples in the same color scheme.
Place Flor samples ($1.00 a piece) in a pleasing/random fashion on each stair.
Mark placement of row with tape so it is easy to position full row later.

2. Cut the Flor stickers in half.

3. Wipe back of tile and adhere sticker in middle of sample.
With sticky part up attach to one piece and then connect with next sample.

4. Remove the entire attached row of carpet sample squares.
Masking tape remains to show positioning for later.

5. Wipe down any dust or dirt for a clean surface.
Make sure surface is dry.

5. Find a strong carpet tape.
This one had the best reviews on Amazon.

6. Cut a length to go under the row of samples.
Remove one side of the tape and press on stairs.

7. Use two strips for extra grip.
One roll was enough for two strips on 13 stairs.
Remove the top paper once both strips attached to expose sticky top.

8. The fun part.
Take your row of carpet samples and lay them on top the two rows of sticky tape.
